Stéphane Blok returns to Humus Records with a new album, five years after Poèmes de la veille (2021). City 8047 was written and composed in Zurich, nicknamed “the City”, in a working-class neighborhood on the west side, whose zip code is 8047. All the songs on the album were recorded live with guitar and vocals, without any post-production editing. These are captured moments, a process that in itself already responds with a certain irony to the challenges of AI, the virtual, the fake, and dehumanization. The acoustic guitar playing blends melodies, harmonies, and percussion, sometimes performed simultaneously—a unique technique, crafted and developed specifically for this project. The arrangements are raw, stripped-down, and radical. Thus, each track has its own identity, sound, and resonance. The lyrics are precise; their timeless or contemporary themes are never political or militant, simply sometimes satirical, always emotional. City 8047 is a pop-rock album, in the tradition of guitar-and-voice songwriting, when music still seeks to embody the hope of another possible world. When the lyrics tell a little of this world, when the guitar calls forth possibilities, the songs become incantations of hope in the thick darkness that surrounds us. The album will be released on September 4, 2026, on Humus Records. The track Ruines will be released as a single, on June 19, 2026. Stéphane Blok will play a few shows in Romandie, but also at Photobastei in Zürich, on November 26, 2026.
