“SUMMER SOLSTICE” is a solo piano piece in a single movement, born from a series of 182 consecutive outdoor performances at dawn, from the winter solstice of 2023 to the summer solstice of 2024. Originating from “WINTER SOLSTICE,” which was performed in the first session, the piece evolved each morning over the course of these six months. Each dawn brought a new interpretation accompanied by rewrites, gradually giving rise to a fully transformed score, resonant with the changing seasons and light.
This project, titled SOLSTICE TO SOLSTICE, took place in Munich, Germany, and was nourished by natural sounds recorded live from seven sites across Bavaria and Switzerland (forest, water, earth, glacier, wildlife, etc.). Suspended vertically and exposed to sometimes harsh weather conditions (-19°, snow, ice, etc.), we—my piano, the audience, and I—were immersed in ever-changing skies, in perpetual transformation from night to day.
