“52 Blue” refers to the 52-hertz whale, often called the “world’s loneliest whale” due to its unique frequency, which is different from any other whale species. This solitary call inspired us, symbolising our own journey to find a unique voice in the vast sea of music. Through this album, we hope to share our journey and connect with listeners on a deeper level, much like the hauntingly beautiful call of the 52-hertz whale.

The name 52 Blue came late in the album process, during a period of recording in a rented house surrounded by mountains and fields, where we indulged in the best Gruyère cheese and scenic walks with the dog. Here, we had ample time to experiment with sound effects. Many of these, created using synthesisers or guitar pedals, reminded us of whales crying, a sound that felt both mystical and poignant. Imagining the vastness of the ocean, the deep, resonant whale calls evoked a sense of awe and tranquility, echoing the profound bond between nature and existence.
