For fans of rhythmic psychedelia and kraut rock, dreamy voices reminiscent of Mazzy Star, and intense build-ups, we proudly present EMZYG’s debut single, “ELY / AKARI.” This song evokes influences from artists like Nice Biscuit, CAN, and Wolf Alice, yet it’s like nothing you’ve ever heard before. This nearly 13-minute-long composition takes listeners on an emotional journey, encompassing feelings of anger, caution, mindfulness, and universal love.
The lyrics weave a tale of a conversation between two friends or lovers, hence the title “ELY / AKARI.” Akari is deeply concerned about her companion Ely, who appears to be struggling and has lost himself through various forms of consumption, open to interpretation. Akari endeavors to ground him, reminding him of the inner light he possesses. Ely, however, is so lost that he struggles to comprehend what she is trying to convey. This sense of frustration and tenderness is represented in the instrumental section of the song: the heavy fuzz, the delicate interplay of delay and reverb, the ebb and flow of tempo, and of course, the lyrics themselves.
