Swiss artist Louis Jucker produced 50 songs in 2024 during two residencies in Lausanne (La Pharmacie, March 2024) and Fribourg (O.V.N.I., September 2024). He set up an analog recording studio in these galleries and invited the public to come and order songs in the form of musical “consultations.”
During a private and anonymous interview, interested individuals could describe to him the symptoms, ailments, and problems in their emotional lives that they imagined could be alleviated with the help of a song-remedy. He wrote, recorded, and pressed the music onto vinyl records on site during his lab hours.
A total of 50 remedy songs accumulated in the pharmacy’s jukebox, providing musical treatment for all kinds of problems, both minor and profound.
PUBLICATION OF A BOOK
In November 2025, Louis Jucker publishes the book “A Pharmacy of Songs,” a complete collection of these songs. The book will be published jointly by Ripopée (Nyon, Switzerland), Humus Records (La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland) and A Tant Rêver Du Roi pour la France.
It is a paperback book of around 200 pages, containing all of the pharmaceutical “notes” describing the remedies offered, classified by a thematic table of contents (according to the ailments targeted, the parts of the body concerned, the type of recommended dosage, etc.), song lyrics, and a set of photographs documenting the two installations created in 2024, in order to reflect the conditions under which these songs were produced.
Online Jukebox
This book is linked to an online platform that works like a jukebox: a digital keypad allows you to call up each song in the collection, which appears on the screen in the form of a VHS video clip, as well as a scan of the original notes from the pharmacist’s file. The songs can be purchased digitally via the Humus Records webshop, or you can order a custom-made single 45 rpm vinyl record if you want to enjoy the remedy at home.
The book will be distributed through independent record stores in Switzerland by Irascible (Lausanne, CH), and in France by À Tant Rêver du Roi (Pau, F). A presentation/listening session tour in stores will be scheduled for the end of November 2025.
