Beurre’s second album picks up precisely where their debut, Oxt to Anyone, left off. The electrifying friction between brutal distortion and emotional sensitivity remains at the heart of the Swiss trio’s shriekingly heavy sound. Yet, the world that shaped these new tracks has grown darker – and so has the music.
Driven by an intensifying desire to channel the transformative force of harsh noise and overwhelming loudness, their brand of extreme metal now takes the shape of mantras and meditations, or veers into the chaotic realms of weirdness and entropy. As ferocious and thunderous as these tracks may be in execution, they are underpinned by fragile threads of hope – fine and delicate – that weave through and illuminate the album’s raw, immersive aura.
The light has left us all, our eyes are long shut. We no longer wish to see, but we need to explore the darkness for what’s left of our unconditional connections. We must check the waters for the current that leads to a healing empathy, to a space where our compassion can prosper. And when we grasp it, when we feel a spark, a direction, a wave, we need to resonate and amplify. To share impulses with those around us, to articulate our intentions and to reveal our positions, to be able to feel the light again, together.
